•Bp decreases with hydrocarbon chain branching due to decrease in surface area which results in fewer intermolecular attractions.
• Mp increases with hydrocarbon chain branching because the more compact molecules have a better fit in the crystal lattice making it more stable.
•Solubility - the quantity of solute that will dissolve in a solvent depends on polarity of solute and solvent.
 “Like dissolves like” refers to polar liquids tending to dissolve polar solutes and nonpolar liquids tend to dissolve nonpolar solutes.  Alkanes are nonpolar.
