Grading & Exams:

Your course average will be calculated as a weighted course average from 3% of your OWL web-based homework score, 17% of your quiz average, and 26.67% from each of your three exam scores.

Course Average = (OWL homework )(0.03) + (Quiz average)(0.17) + (Exam 1)(0.2667) + (Exam 2)(0.2667) + (Exam 3)(0.2667)

Exams are 100 points each and are composed of 30 multiple choice questions.  Each exam score will contribute 26.67% to the weighted course average.   A sample exam is available at the web address given above.

Quizzes are worth 20 points each.  A total of six quizzes will be given.

There are a total of three OWL homework assignments.  An OWL assignment will be due the same day of each exam.  Each assignment will include topics tested on that day’s exam.  The student should stay current by working problems from an OWL assignment as each topic is covered in class.   NOTE:  We are on CST.  OWL is on EST.  When an OWL assignment indicates a due time of 9:00 a.m., this means 8:00 a.m. our time!  All due dates and times are firm.  There will be NO extensions.

OWL Assignment 1 is due 8:00 a.m. (CST) Monday, December 19.

OWL Assignment 2 is due 8:00 a.m. (CST) Monday, January 30.

OWL Assignment 3 is due 8:00 a.m. (CST) Wednesday, February 22.

Cheating: Any student caught cheating will receive the grade of F on that exam.  A report of said incident will be forwarded by the instructor to the division of student affairs as a violation of the Louisiana Tech Honor Code.

Make-up:  Any missed quiz or exam must be made up by the day of the next class meeting.  It is the sole responsibility of the student to personally communicate with the instructor and agree upon a time of day to make up the missed quiz or exam.  Any quiz or exam not made up under these conditions will be logged as a zero “0”.

Last day to drop class with "W" grade is Friday, February 3.

Student I.D.

OWL homework

OWL (Online Web-based Learning) is a comprehensive, web-based, homework system that includes the delivery and grading of electronic homework assignments.   The OWL web-based homework will be used to determine part of your grade.  Students log into OWL through a web browser and complete assignments created by the instructor. When students submit a response to an assignment question, OWL automatically grades their response and displays the correct answer along with instructive feedback written by the instructor.  Student answers and scores are stored in a database, and grades are posted for students and instructors to see.  Students may repeat assignments as desired to try and better their grade. (Please note that there are due dates for each assignment.)  OWL can generate a new question set each time the student repeats an assignment.  Thus students can also come back to their assignments to study for exams.

There are a total of three OWL assignments.  An OWL assignment will be due the same day of each exam.  Each assignment will include topics specifically to be tested on that day’s exam.

Cell Phone Policy During Class

The large number of students in this class creates the potential for a noise problem.  Please be considerate of your fellow students and the instructor by making a personal commitment not to cause unnecessary noise.  That includes turning off your cell phone or pager before each class!

Cell Phone Policy During Exams

The use and display of cell phones during exams are prohibited.  All cell phones and pagers must be turned OFF and stored out of sight during an exam.  If a student has no place to store a cell phone or pager, a locked lab desk drawer in the testing room will be made available for storage of the phone or pager until the end of the exam.  Any student who displays or uses a cell phone or pager during an exam will be required to sign a form documenting that they have violated the cell phone use policy.  If any cell phone or pager technique is subsequently found to have been used to compromise the testing process, the document signed by the student and a report by the instructor will be sent forward to the division of student affairs as a violation of the Louisiana Tech Honor Code.
